Of the many amazingly beautiful parks in Bellingham, Whatcom Falls holds a special place in my heart. Maybe it's the fact I've lived so close to this 241 acre gem for a good chunk of my life or maybe it's because I have such fond memories fishing, running, jumping off the cliffs, etc.
Yes, Whatcom Falls park is possibly the most majestic park in all of Bellingham with miles of winding trails through a lush northwest landscape. Through these paths lie 4 breath taking water falls, a serene fishing pond, and a moss covered bridge built in 1939 that was constructed out of sandstone from Chuckanut. If that doesn't wet your appetite there are 2 playgrounds for kids, a basketball court and a covered rec area for those summer Bar-B-Ques.
Of course, you could opt for something a little bolder (or should I say boulder) and jump off of the famous Whatcom Falls Cliffs or even better the Whirlpool. Keep in mind, this isn't for the faint of heart nor the weak in body as though hundreds of teens and young adults jump the cliffs every year, injuries have been incurred. Just a little disclaimer! But whatever your reason for coming to this incredible park, you'll be sure to enjoy some peace and serenity in the great outdoors next door.
