Waterfront home enjoy easy access to the water and there are two "community only" lake access points for Emerald Lake Property Owners Association members. There is no public access to the lake from Emerald Lake Way.
On the western hillside of Squalicum Mountain many homes enjoy full or partial views of the City, Bellingham Bay and the Islands to the west.
Emerald Lake has one public access area at the southwest end that can be reached fron Toad Lake Road. There is a gravel boat ramp, floating dock and limited maneuvering and parking space. The lake is open to fishing from April 28 to Oct 31.
In general, public school students living in the Emerald Lake area attend Northern Heights Elementary, Shuksan Middle School and Squalicum High School. Northern Heights Elementary and Squalicum High School are both located nearby. Shuksan Middle School is located in the north end of Bellingham.
