Happy Valley Neighborhood
The Happy Valley Neighborhood is located at the foot of Sehome, Samish and South Hills. Historically, this area served as a residential neighborhood with many of the early residents working in the Fairhaven Cedar Mill and Salmon Cannery. A street car along Harris Avenue connected Happy Valley to Fairhaven's waterfront. Many early residents of Happy Valley had single family homes on smaller lots near the Fairhaven area and larger "garden tracts" in the rest of the valley.
Sehome Village shopping center is located in the northeast corner of the Happy Valley Neighborhood. Sehome Village has a Haggen supermarket, Rite Aid, REI, Sehome Cinema and several restaurants and retail shops. Food Pavilion supermarket is located in the southeast corner of the neighborhood. The nearby Fairhaven and Sehome neighborhoods have numerous retail shops, businesses and restaurants.
Connelly Creek Nature Area is a large public natural area in Happy Valley. It was established to preserve Connelly Creek, its associated wetlands and wildlife habitat. It also provides outdoor environmental learning opportunities for children in neighborhood schools and hiking trails for all.
There are three public schools located in the Happy Valley Neighborhood. They are Happy Valley Elementary,Larrabee Elementary, and Sehome High School.
In general, younger public school students living in the Happy Valley Neighborhood attend either Happy Valley Elementary or Larrabee Elementary. Middle School students are bused to Fairhaven Middle School and older students attend Sehome High School.
