Take a Run through Edgemoor

I've always liked the Edgemoor community since I moved here in 1986, but never got to see it from ground level. Always from my car or airplane.

Last year I challenged my then 12 year old son to train with me and run Bellingham's Inaugural Marathon... so named The Bellingham Bay Marathon. I must have made an impact as you can see my picture on the website. Yes that's me in the red. But anyway, we trained all summer on about every trail... and there's many running trails all around Bellingham.

After running about 650 miles we were ready to hit the starting line. The course started down at the Hotel Bellwether and followed the coastline south through Fairhaven, then up 4th street into Edgemoor. It was exciting to see the local residents out front of their homes to watch and cheer on the crowd of nearly 1200 runners and walkers. The scenery and Homes there are absolutely beautiful. As I recall we ran almost every hill in Edgemoor to boot.

The day to that point was a lot of fun. Only several miles into the 26.2 mile excursion that was soon to turn Monsoon.

Edgemoor is located in the southwest corner of Bellingham on the bay, and is by far one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Bellingham. Many of the homes are on large, landscaped lots, the grass is green year round, and the trees are tall and compliment the water view. The majority of the residents are affluent and elegant luxury homes with sweeping views of the bay and San Juan Islands can be found at every turn. The neighborhood has a mix of newer and older homes, but all are very well maintained.

Located in Edgemoor is the historic Lairmont Manor, a private facility popular for weddings and receptions, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. The Bayside Swimming Club is also located here, making the community as a whole attractive.
