Samish Hill is a hilly, residential neighborhood located at the southern end of Bellingham. The neighborhood still maintains much of its original rural character from the past, but it is experiencing new residential growth like many areas of Bellingham.
Housing in the neighborhood varies. Most of the older homes in this neighborhood were built adjacent to Samish Way, the main entrance into the city before I-5 was constructed. Many of these older homes are located around Mill Street and on the western side of Samish Hill. These homes enjoy views of Happy Valley below and Bellingham Bay in the distance. Many newer homes have been built on the western hillside to take advantage of the same views.
Several newer housing developments are located higher up on the hillside east of Ridgemont and north of Lake Padden. Ridgemont is a subdivision of contemporary, middle-income homes built in the 1970s on the hillside east of Samish Way in the northern section of the neighborhood. Many of the homes here have a view of the Bay, the Islands, Chuckanut Mountain or of the valley below. Large homes near the top of these hillside developments enjoy sweeping views of the valley, Chuckanut Mountain, Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands in the distance.
